Hacked off

The Leveson Inquiry continues unabated with the dirty digger himself, Rupert Murdoch, the latest to be called before the beak in an effort to explain the shenanigans at the now closed News of the Screws.  This seems to have been going on forever; the claims, counter-claims, the cover-ups, the resignations and shut downs.  The hard truth about who knew what and when seems destined never to see the light of day.  It’s all cloak and dagger, smoke and mirrors; like a cold-war-era spy caper where the viewer is never quite sure who is who and who knows what.  The characters involved provide much fun though; from David “I was always drunk at work” Yelland, former editor of the Sun, to the arrogant nazi-call-girl berk Max Mosely and the pie-wielding (very much) younger wife of the digger, Wendy Deng, they are almost beyond parody.  I suspect any scriptwriter worth their salt would throw out any script that contained this nonsense.  I have to say that the diggers performance as an elderly, bumbling, out of touch gentleman that he gave when hauled into the House of Commons was worth some sort of award; outstanding.  He reverted to type at Leveson; the snarling Australian media beast that “knew little” of what went on.  Real life seems to be even dirtier and more salacious than anything the hacks on the Street of Shame could ever dream up.
