Nonsense alert; Transport Guru Justine Greening was featured in a promo video this week asking London folk to, and I can’t believe I am typing this, “re-mode” their transport during the utter chaos that will be this summer’s Olympic Games.  Re-mode?  Just what does that mean?  The latest in a very very long line of Management Speak idiocy that seemingly passes for communication these days.  On the train the other week I overheard several beauties such  as; ”we need some quality face time”, “stick that in the chiller and we’ll gnaw on it later”, “we need to firm up and tie off” and (my personal favourite) “you can’t eat an elephant in one bite”.  The utterers were all on smart phones and / or laptops plinking away at spreadsheets and documents, seemingly oblivious to the humour they were providing for yours truly.  How did the English Language come to be so mangled by these cheap suited, cheap booted self important fools?  It is yet another example of the Americanisation of Britain; the insidious march of management babble that makes the skin crawl and long for the days of straight talking.  The ridiculousness I would feel using these phrases must be mirrored by those using them mustn’t it?  Apparently not.

  1. haha – have heard many such gems myself and they’re usually a mask for someone who hasn’t really got a clue what their doing… 😉
