Crime can’t crack itself

Posted: July 10, 2012 in This is the Voice of Lefty Reason

Startling news from Lancashire this week as senior bobbies admitted that crime has risen in the wake of swingeing cuts to the boys in blue.  Who’d a thought it?  Take coppers off the street and slash millions off budgets and the criminal fraternity react in an all too predictable way.  Crime is on the rise; criminals must be rubbing their thieving hands together with glee as they watch the last panda cars roll back to base to be mothballed for when crime becomes a political issue again; usually around the time of a General Election.   I know we must cut the debt and I know times are hard but it seems to me that hitting the police and the armed forces really isn’t going to help in the long run.  Surely a society that feels safe and secure is more likely to thrive than one where the chances of catching the scumbag who burgled your house is down about 8%?  A couple of days later Staffordshires’s  finest advertised for “volunteers”; one lovely job they suggested was the washing of squad cars to “free up resources”.  Perhaps the LibCons could tie this in with one of their ridiculous “workfare”  policies?  Let’s march the unemployed down the station so they can wash the cars of the coppers who are too busy trying to fill in triplicate paper work and assessing health and safety idiocy to get out on the Beat?
