In the Land of Giants.

Strainsview is off to the Land of the Giants tomorrow.  Cardiff, not always associated with the Greatest Game is the place to be as England face the mighty Australian rugby league team at the opening of the World Cup.  Giants on either side will man up and attempt to knock seven bells out of each other; expect ferocious collisions, sublime handling skills and maybe, just maybe, the odd spot of good old fashioned Biff.  To me, Rugby League is without doubt the greatest team sport in the world, not least because it is the sport of The North.  It has withstood a century of establishment bias as the hamper and barbour brigade repeatedly tried to destroy it; not so very long ago a rugby union player could be banned for life for trying the XIII code.  It’s heartlands remain the Northern Counties of Cumberland, Lancashire and Yorkshire; southerners really have no idea what they are missing out on.  It is the number one sport in Australia and the Aussie team are, as per usual, the strong favourites.  Perhaps unlike many other sports, fans have a deep relationship with the actual game as well as whatever team they happen to support.  I will be shouting myself hoarse tomorrow for my team, my North and my game.  Come on England!
